Spiders! (pg. 3)

Dr. DAS
I just got back from the Dominican Republic.

Whilst enjoying a sunny day on my beach lounger, my buddy started freaking out and telling me to hold really still - he then flicked a brown widow spider the size of a nickel off my neck and into the sand.

Apparently their venom is stronger than a black widow's, but is localised to the bite area, where it causes necrosis...which basically means your flesh turns into black goo and falls off.

He was identified by a local, who fished him out of the sand and put him up in a tree.

Here's a picture of that little baddie (not him, but the same species)

I don't have that much spiders but I have lots of centepede's.

Centipedes are great. They kill and eat all the other disgusting bugs like spiders and cockroaches. And they hate the light, so they'll almost never bother you - the only times I ever saw them in my old house, they were scurrying as fast as they could into some dark corner.

You can try to kill them, but before I knew what they were, I once pounded one with an old shoe 4 times and sprayed about half a can of Raid on it and it still survived. Just ignore 'em - they're ugly but they're beneficial.

Creepy legs, but otherwise pretty. I don't know what the big deal is with people and spiders. They're unique.

there is one that lives in my driver's side rearview mirror. makes a new web there everyday, and everyday it gets destroyed on the highway. this has been going on for months.

If I had one of those, I'd throw in in Spidonkadonk's web to see who will win. It would make a nice youtube video.

Spiders are way cool.

I helped my buddy do a bunch of yard work at his house this summer and I ended up ripping down a bunch of ugly vines growing on his fence. Well I guess there were some spiders living in there, because the very next day there were SIX webs built (by 6 spiders) in the dogwoods lining the fence. It was pretty ing cool, not only because they had taken up shop so quickly, but also because they all had such prime spots for catching food.

I also saw one of these over the summer:

It's a crab spider. I didn't know anything about it when I first saw it, and I'd never seen one like it before...but I thought it was dangerous because of it's bright colour. I took a couple pics with my cell phone cam, and every time I got close to it, it would spring back on its back legs and raise it's front ones in the air, almost like it was ready to fight, lol.

But yeah, spiders are cool.
