sound card issues

I have a SoundBlaster Audigy 4 that I ripped out from my old PC to put in this newly built PC (with Vista). I downloaded the newest drivers from the Creative site, and everything seems to be working fine. Windows recognizes all the inputs and if I play anything on my set up, sound comes out fine through the speakers.

The problem I have is when I am recording. Though when I'm playing it sounds perfect, when I playback what I recorded it's garbage. It sounds like it's stuttering and somewhat distorted.

I have my set up connected straight to the sound card's RCA inputs and tried using Soundforge 6 and Audacity, and both led to the same problem. I tried lowering the recording levels and still nothing.

Does it sound like it's driver issues with Vista? Or could it be a setting that I have wrong? I just don't get why the sound comes out perfect as I play it, and it's just the recording that's messed up.

edit: weird.... it just fixed by itself.

Yeah that weird because what I was thinking of was mixer level was to high in Creative console launcher. But that may not be problem if it fixed itself and all. Still puzzle me because never ran into problem before expect for real old recording from tape to pc and just lowered the levels some and it fixed issue because the tape was over 20 years old. More like when tape recorders just hit the market and they recorded my great grand parents 50 wedding anniversary on tape.
