VST Host for Re-Wire

Hey guys, I need a VST host that I can Re-Wire to in Reason 4.

I'm going to be expanding my sound. Presently I use NL3 sounds and Reason's maelstrom for most of my synths, which has been working out great. To attain a certain degree of studio diversity I would like to start implementing VSTs. I would like to start using something other than FruityLoops or Cubase or Logic or Ableton Live. Although there's some certainty that I must use one of those I would like your input on which to try first. I will continue mixing my tracks down in Reason, but now it's time to try out Nexus and a few other VSTs. Thanks for any input.

Personally, I always found Cubase easy to learn, it's made sense intuitively and rewires well. I think if you get in to cubase, over time, you'll probably find that you start mixing down in cubase.

Errrrr....:conf:
How many other options are there really? You've mentioned the obvious ones. Sonar? energyXT? Reaper? Tracktion? Project5?....It ends somewhere you know. And not everyone of the latter is capable of rewire (master).

Personally I would prefer using earlier versions of Logic that are supported on Windows. Ultimately I'll make that transition to logic, once I can afford a Mac. Don't you think it would be worth it to learn something more superior like Logic?

Logic is not superior over anything. Just because you have failed with other software doesnt mean this will be any different. Yes, it is popular, but not more than ableton oddly enough.

Who mentioned anything about failing with other software? And yes, Logic is superior.

No logic is not superior, it's just different. Each program has strengths and weaknesses, pros and cons.

I would say, buy a SW package and commit to it rather than goofing around with hacked Warez... is a lot better for fccus and creativity as well... download less, upload more......

Cubase' rewire implementation is a pain. I hate it really.. that's why I now work with ableton live, which has a MUCH better rewire workflow.

Don't use Ableton, but never found rewire/cubase that much of a hassle - interesting to hear though. Why is Ableton that much better in terms of rewire implementation?

Pretty much everything tbh, once you tried it in ableton you wondered why you wasted so much time in cubase. The most important for me is:

Audio channels: in cubase the first 2 are a stereo track, all others are mono. In order to have the reason instruments audio flow routed in a semi-decent way in cubase for mixing you have to create stereo groups for each 2 mono tracks. In ableton you have first the list of stereo tracks, then a list of all single tracks like this:
1-2 stereo
3-4 stereo
...
3 mono
4 mono
5 mono
6 mono
...

Okay you can make a template in cubase but even then, the workflow in ableton is much better.

Automation:
In cubase: cc#
in ableton: it picks all values of reason, so you're automating combinator rotary, or thor cutoff instead of midi CC's.

These 2 were actually enough to switch over for me.

Dunno about the mixdowns, but in ableton this works perfectly.

Since I'm kinda hooked to reason since I tried it (release 4), and I know use it A LOT, I switched to ableton. I use ableton for an occasional VST or hardware synth and/or if I want to have vocals.

I still liked the midi editing better in cubase (the best of all sequencer imo), but in ableton and reason I feel more like being busy with music instead of computers. It feels more intuitive. But like I said before, I only use ableton to do the things reason can't do so for an extended ableton review somebody else should give his opinion.
