Tryin' to take my production to a new level. I'm lookin' for a nice sound card for production, nothin' higher than a couple hundred smackers... At most 5.... Unless it's a REALLY GOOD sound card.

It's nearly impossible to recommend a soundcard without knowing what your needs are.

So, start by telling us about your needs and your current setup.

How many inputs/outputs do you need? Are you using hardware synths and, if so, how many? Do you need to record vox, guitars, etc.? Do you have a mic(s) that requires phantom power? How many outboard devices will you need to record simultaneously? How many sets of monitors are you using? How many headphone outs do you need? Do you have or need a separate headphone distribution unit? Do you need digital ins/outs e.g., for ADAT? USB or Firewire?

I'm in exactly the same position (budget and all) but as Cryo said you need provide more info.

Palm is dead right, and for $300 the Audiofire 4 (4 in 4 out + midi all firewire) is the best card in it's class.

If you only need 2 in 2 out and no midi and can stretch to $500, the apogee duet is the best sounding card you can buy.
