Almost all of HGF Synths are dedicated to pads, atmospheres and background FX. I especially dig Anvilia/Shuniji (Got the most beautiful pad layers out of them).

If you are more into dark and weird sounds, Id recommend Reaktor.

Absynth 4 and FM8 are great synths for atmospheres, but sometimes a bit more tricky to program.

Then theres Spectrasonics Atmosphere and its successor Omnisphere which should offer you plenty of awesome atmospheric layers, but its definitely not cheap.

Reaktor? depends how messed up you like your sounds...
really any synths can make these sounds, but reaktor absynth and FM8 have multi point envelopes...

Some of the demo videos on this site are really good and just what im after, thanks ! have you had a chance to sample the new spectrasonics ohmisphere, i am thinkin of buying it but have been reading up on it and alot of people are saying you dont get many presents etc for all the hype about it !
cybernetica
I am really considering to buy it. Too bad I just spent all my money on a PC upgrade... But what Ive seen so far looks really impressive, and its not just limited to Sample playback but also has its own powerful synthesis engine. You should check out the thread about omnisphere here, or the forum at KVR.
My favorite demo of Omnisphere is this track because it shows how well it can do "normal" synths: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=228210 :)

Ye thats def the best demo I hav heard as far as synth capabilities are concerned ! im a Virus TI owner so do you think its worth getting as the virus could do all of them things and alot more,

cool demo by the way, excellent producion sounds very similar to Hardrox - feel the hard rock

Also forgot to mention im using a mac and logic ! tried DLing and installing Anvilia by converting it to an AU via FXpansion VST to AU wrapper, it doesnt seem to be picking it up on my hard drive :( petty cause it looks really cool and just what i need !

why wont you try programming some patches with your TI?? it seems to me more than capable of achieving an endless amount of pads...

Im still only really learning day by day how to use all the capabilities on the TI ! Its not really pads i'm after, its more really spacey atmospheric soundscapes .... the link givin above to Anvilia is exactly the type of thing im after ! great sounds ! only im running a mac !

Sorry mate, couldnt test Omnisphere so far, guess youll need someone else to judge whether its better than your TI.

Too bad the VSTs dont work for you... have you tried Absynth or FM8? Some of the patches are really outstanding.

My last recommendation would be to use CamelSpace as FX on a regular pad synth. It can really add depth, space and movement to static sounds, or even turn them into something new.
