hardstyle sucks?

last night the rave closed with a techno/hardstyle tag. The hardstyle tracks had very little punch or groove compared to the techno, especially in the bass regions. Has anyone else noticed this?

I thought it sounded like a Formula 1 car ticking over...

Oh, and :nervous:

No , I was listing to schranz the first time a few months ago, and its like wow... there are a lot of hardstyley sounds in here, but they are actually used well, with awesome rythmn and energy, compared to the in hardstyle.

/currently in the process of attempting to convert all 10 hardstyle listening friends to schranz

The problem with Schranz is that it never really goes anywhere. It's one of those cliched boom boom boom genres of Techno.
Hardstyle tends to sound a lot more cheesy in comparison but also a lot more fun.

If I wanted something to go somewhere and have structure I'd listen to goa/psy trance (which I do primarily obviously). Hardstyle is often far too simple.

I must say, I supremely like the structure of techno and the way it builds and its reliance on rythmn.

Hardstyle's ok. Hardcore is a lot better :)

Well I've heard some good hardcore mixed in with jungle sets, so I must say theres some good hardcore, unlike hardstyle.

[edit] Also, I disagree on schranz going no where, theres some of it that is kind've a darkpsy/industrial mood, which I must say concidering I like previously mentioned genres I do quite enjoy. Theres a fair bit of cheese in scrhanz though... I must admit.

honestly, it has nothing to do with the structure or mood. the kicks and basses were just so broadly defined that it wasn't very groovy ... has anyone else noticed this problem with current hardstyle? it seems like the low end is meant to seem overpowering and extremely resonant, unlike most techno which uses more tightly defined bits?

I like some hardstyle, but there is generally too much cheesy rubbish hardstyle getting made and sold. The tracks get stale far too quickly for my likings.
