Besides, next-generation networks are already under development that are going to blur the lines between GSM and CDMA anyway. It makes more sense for us to wait and switch to the next generation network than to jump the ship to GSM and then have to upgrade again later."

i work for telus, and i can tell you that is true since every single major operator out there will be migrating to 4G/LTE in the next 3-5 years GSM will be grandfathered technology

There was some intense talks during the summer of that happening sometime soon...

they WILL NOT SWITCH TO GSM!

what they will do is switch to 4G/LTE , because it would not make buisness sense for them to invest in 2/3G infrastructure when 4G is around the corner in 2 years time

Telus > Rogers, hands down

i have both a Telus personal phone and a Rogers work blackberry.

my Telus phone is rock solid with no dropped calls EVER.

my Rogers BB flakes out at least 20% of it's calls.

i also manage 300 Rogers Blackberries at work (BES admin) and the users always complain about Roger's crappy connection.

Canada's Most Reliable Network? Roger's should be shot for their false advertising.

It sort of makes sense but then at same time it doesn't make any sense. Does that make sense? :conf: :conf:

What i am trying to say is that techonlogy changes rapidly. There is no debate on that point. Why not change with technology? I mean when 4G comes i am sure some whizkid somewhere in the world will have something much better in the works which will be introduced 2 years after 4G. This cycle will continue and i beleive only those will survive that can keep up with the rapid changes.

the cost of upgrading to 2G/3G GSM technology will cost almost the same or double, and today they made any annoucement that they will migrate to 4G by 2010 and the rest of the world like major GSM carriers will switch to 4G/LTE. They havent said they wont change at all. But change doesnt happen in one day?! that is the reality.

i understand what your saying but with change comes a cost factor, and that is to give you and example initially even rogers didnt buy into GSM it took them years to adapt it. They were lucky they won the FIDO auction also, so it worked in their favor perfect timing and execution. But now the time has come for change for CDMA carriers to change so embrace it with open arms

There's been a lot more rumors floating around that Microsoft is pursing to buy RIM.

Apparently there is a standing offer to buy them at $50/share. Since the decline of their stock by over 50% since June...this seems like it is possible, though highly unlikely.

has to be a rumour. There's no way MS would try to buy out a competitor to their Win Mobile platform, especially considering the competitor is as large as RIM. Frankly, I don't think MS has enough money to buy em.

HP and IBM have been rumored to be suitors as well.
