burning mkv files to dvd

How do you burn an mkv file to a dvd that you can watch in a regular dvd player?

.mkv is merely a file format container, you've gotta extract the file from within it so you can mess around with that. It's usually an .avi in there.

Try virtualdubmod.

Once you open your file in virtualdubmod, pick direct stream copy for both audio and video (if it allows it) and save as an avi (that way you don’t have to do any recompression).

yea MKV is a format that can self contain subtitle tracks (so u get the option of turning on subtitles and selecting which languages etc etc) and more...not sure what..but thats the most common use of it

It's very simple Shanny: use convertxtoDVD to convert the MKV file to DVD format and the disc will play in regular DVD units. I've done it before and it works perfectly.

Or this, but it's not free.
