Blizzcon thread (D3 / SC2 info)

I'll be using this thread in a blog-like fashion, updating posts with new info and links as they arise. Feel free to do the same. This will be a good hub of info for those who aren't as obsessed as I am and don't feel like struggling with blurry half-comprehensible shots and unstable servers.

- New D3 class announced: Wizzard

Looks like the wizzard is replacing the sorceress/mage. In the video we see a female wizzard using several lightning-based skills - chain lightning, charged bolts, as well as various other projectiles. I also noticed tornadoes - which is bad news for druid fans.

The skills look similar in function to their D1 and D2 equivalents, however more graphically pleasing and much faster to execute - which I like. Projectiles zoom across the screen very quickly (much faster than they did in D2). There also seems to be somekind of hold-fire lightning stream somewhat similar to Diablo's lightning inferno skill. Other abilities include protective spells - bubble-like shields, among other things. Looks like a fun class to play.

Apparently the wizzard has many new spells that involve manipulating time and space.

If skills in D2 follow the D2-style 3-tab structure, it looks like the wizzard's skills won't be seperated into individual elements (fire / cold / lightning). We've already seen skills related to fire, possibly an ice nova, tornadoes, lightning and several "miscelaneous" magic attacks that seem to be display as somesort of glowing purple energy.

Blizzard just uploaded a ty in-game video (different from the gameplay vid I posted in the OP).

It's cheesy as hell. I'm hoping they won't have too many in-game stuff like this in the final release. It contains a lot of really good gameplay footage toward the end though, so definately worth watching.

Very interresting article about the new skill system. Contains a short narrated video at the end explaining specific applications of the skill system.

Basicly, rather than only being boosted by skill points, individual abilities can be improved in 2 dimentions. With each skill point assigned, their stats are modified (much like the D1/D2 system). Second, skills can be boosted by runes which assign specific characteristics to the skill. In one of the examples shown, a "multishot" rune is added to flaming skull (previousely named fire bomb in the announcement demo), thus making the skull bounce on impact and causing damage to a greater area. Then, that very same rune is applied to the wizzard's lightning skill, turning it into chain lightning (bounces from one target to the other).

New starcraft 2 screens:

looks like terran siege tanks, hellions (previousely jackals) and nighthawks (previousely nomads)

Starcraft II to be released in 3 parts

While all three races are to be fully playable in multiplayer, the singleplayer campaign will feature only terrans, with a comparable ammount of missions spread out over one campaign rather than three seperate ones. Subsequently, two expansion sets are to be released at a later time, adding the zerg and protoss campaigns respectively.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. On one hand, I'm pretty dissapointed. This is something I would expect from EA, not blizzard. However, the justification seems to be a quicker release date, and with the devellopment time pushing 5 years, they presumably want to get this on the shelves ASAP.

Still... :(

Seems somewhat fair enough, although really the zerg/protoss campaigns should be release together.

As I understand it, the idea is to have every campaign be much more develloped. So instead of having ~30 missions spread out as 10 terran / 10 zerg / 10 protoss, we're going to get ~30 terran / ~30 zerg / ~30 protoss for a total of ~90 missions. This way they can release the game as soon as the terran campaign is done, then release the zerg campaign as soon as that's done - as opposed to having to wait over a year longer just to have everything.

Yes but it makes sense that you pay extra for extended singleplayer together instead of 2 fricken seperate expansions, regardless.

Blizzard Activision's trollin' the gamers. First these "expansions" and now certain aspects of Battle.net not being free for D3.

Can anyone see the real 'Brood War-like' expansion on the horizon? That's right. There're three of them.
