USB 2.0 vs Firewire

Not sure if this has been an endless debate or not as I haven't been round long enough to know :p Anyway, is there much difference? I read in an M audio Magazine that Firewire has a maximum speed of 400mbps (not sure what the hell that is...), whilst USB 2.0 has a maximum of 480mbps. Are the 2 really comparable though, or is it a matter of personal opinion?

Feedback appreciated!

I think Firewire is faster ASFAIK and also the quality of Firewire is much better than usb when it comes to recording audio

USB 2.0 is technically faster but it sends data in packets which is not good for audio production where you need a constant stream of data (ie Firewire).

Apparently USB 3.0 is looking to fix this issue but no solid data has been release yet afaik.

So basically for audio, Firewire is the better choice?

for interfaces with a high channel count, yes.

for 2in2out or 4in4out it won't make any difference, so long as you get a good interface. unfortunately, there are very few good usb audio interfaces... the only ones that come to mind are the edirol and motu ones.
