Not sure if this has been an endless debate or not as I haven't been round long enough to know :p Anyway, is there much difference? I read in an M audio Magazine that Firewire has a maximum speed of 400mbps (not sure what the hell that is...), whilst USB 2.0 has a maximum of 480mbps. Are the 2 really comparable though, or is it a matter of personal opinion?
Feedback appreciated!

I think Firewire is faster ASFAIK and also the quality of Firewire is much better than usb when it comes to recording audio |

USB 2.0 is technically faster but it sends data in packets which is not good for audio production where you need a constant stream of data (ie Firewire).
Apparently USB 3.0 is looking to fix this issue but no solid data has been release yet afaik. |

So basically for audio, Firewire is the better choice? |

for interfaces with a high channel count, yes.
for 2in2out or 4in4out it won't make any difference, so long as you get a good interface. unfortunately, there are very few good usb audio interfaces... the only ones that come to mind are the edirol and motu ones. |
