After the september 11th attacks (which were attrocities - that's not the subject of this thread) I seem to see everybody excusing their behaviour by reference to these. E.g. when a company needs to lay off people, it's not because of bad management decisions or competition in the marketplace. No, it's "after the september 11th attacks, the market has shrunk". When my plane is delayed, it's because of increased security in the wake of the september 11th attacks, and not because the pilot is late. Or when thins out in the ranks of it's because of the increased threat from terror in the wake of september 11th.
Just yesterday I even read in Time, that some Russian delegate at a meeting on whaling, said that the refusal to renew quotas for native groups in Russia was the equivalent of the september 11th attacks for these groups.

Excuse me, but isn't there a limit to how much goodwill you can get by abusing this tragedy? or am I just getting worked up over nothing :o

They say the world will never be the same after 9 11. Well, sounds like it to me..

i hear what you are saying but some of the things can be blamed on sept 11. i think it hit the job market really hard but it is beginning to turn around.

i think the airlines use it as an excuse. i get delayed as often now as i did before. and i still find the security to be a joke, but that is another issue....

but the other stuff - i think you are right. people need something to blame for already existing political and economic problems. sept 11 may not be the cause of all the things it gets blamed for but it is a symbol of the problems in this world.

what i think everyone seems to overlook is that we have always had terrorists and terrorism. This time they succeed in accomplishing their plans. the media has grabbed a hold of it and is freaking everyone out.

everyone must suffer the consequences of ignoring things like airline security for the last 40 years as we try to plug the holes.

what is that saying

an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure?

grrrr....

no offence to anybody, but why do people have to refer to the event as 911, or 9-11 or 9 11? Why not just call it September 11 or something?

To me, calling it 911 just sounds like some marketing genius giving it a snappy name...

Again, no offence intended to anybody...
