Plenty of those here too. Only the females are venomous but I don't really think they're deadly these days if the bite is treated quickly enough but yeah they're still nasty looking little ******s.
Funnel webs are around although they aren't all that common but believe me, you don't want to get bitten by one of them, far worse than the black widow from what I've heard.
I remember a friend of mine that somehow illegally smuggled one of those bird eating tarantulas into the country only to lose it a short time later! Just hope it didn't have a chance to reproduce and find more of them getting around. That's a bit scary. :nervous:

Black widows and funnel webs are still deadly. The difference being that (iirc) with a black widow you have an hour or two to get anti venom. With a funnel web it's minutes before the toxin sends every muscle into shock and you die from it.

The spiders or the crab??

Guess one of Sweden's positive sides with the crap-weather is that we don't get monstrosities like those.

However, couldn't help lookin on the floor once or twice after seeing the pics

it's not a photoshop.

that's a robber crab, native to Christmas island which is an Australian territory in the Indian Ocean. I'm a third generation Christmas Islander, my parents and grand parents use to eat those but now they're protected. If you're wondering they're a land crab and they eat coconut pith and other debris in the jungle. Although I've seen one in a banana tree eating bananas once.

If you're interested you can see more pictures of crabs and what Christmas Island looks like in general at my wife's shutterfly:
