Rap Mixtapes from the 90's

Does anyone remember those mixtapes that used to be sold on streetcorners in the 90's? Most of the guys I'd buy from were on the west side, esp around the port authority or herald square - back when there were 15 porno stores on each block!

My favorite tapes were always from DJ Green Lantern, DJ Clue, and DJ Whoo Kidd. Is there anywhere to download those old tapes? I'm sure the quality would be but who cares - they'd still be 10x better than anything else on the rap scene today.

there used to be a few guys scattered around broadway in soho
who always had great mix tapes
i have a box full of all old school sound factory and tunnel mixed tapes
lots of memories on those tapes
there used to be a few good dealers by canal who would have alot of exclusive stuff from rap to house
last time i seen a guy with good cd's was like last year
he had a lil table set up with some mixed cd's i got a tribal cd
its not bad either
i miss those nyc street vendors :(

Before I started clubbing, and I was like 13, I used to stay up late and record Hot 97 shows on cassette, some of those were nastyyyy...

I used to listen to future flavors religiously on Hot 97. Still have a bunch of mixtapes I recorded. Never used to buy the ones on the block, but definitely have a stack of my own :)

Mixtapes now are worthless. By the time a new Green Lantern or WhiteOwl mix drops, I've heard every song already. Blogs killed the mixtape DJ.

The Funk Master Flex show on Hot 97 was consistently nasty. I remember back when I was like 13 I tried to go to a Funk Flex show at the Tunnel on a Sunday night.

Right when I stepped out of my cab, a gigantic black bouncer turned me back around and put me back in it! Will never forget that.
