5 hours in a pro recording studio with a partner for $87. Interested?

I have an idea. It might be crazy, but it can work. This thread is an interest check.
Many studios charge $35/hour, $350/day. Assuming those studios are open 10 hours a day, I reached the conclusion that if people were wiling to share, this is what you could negotiate:
Guarantee 4 people per day, translating to 2 groups: one during the first half of the day, another during the second half.
Each person will pay $87 upfront to the studio (NOT ME OR ANYONE ELSE IN THIS GROUP DON'T TRUST PEOPLE).
You come in during your assigned time with your partner. If you have more people you're cool with, you can split the costs even more (but make sure you're cool with sharing a studio with that many people!)
Voila! 5 hours inside a professional studio with another person for only 87 bucks! What a ing steal! I'd gladly pay that much for 5 hours in a studio, holy .
I doubt they'd be willing to do this unless you paid them upfront and stated what you were doing beforehand so they wouldn't be confused. If we all form a group (nobody pays me, or anyone involved in this project aside from the studio) then we can negotiate with our buying power. If you don't have a partner, fine. Make some partners in this group. Maybe we should all meet up somewhere to work this out (get a feel for the personality of the people you might want to share the studio time with, make sure they like the same music)? You have to be cool... realllly cool with the person you share the studio with. Seriously.
We'll give them a schedule that we worked out and tell them that we're a collection of musical duos or groups or some bull.
If you have a good friend that you know you can work with, or if you're looking for someone to work with, we can do this. It saves money and it's fun! Right?
(Yes, this is assuming a 10 hour studio at $35/hour and $350/day. That was just one example. We'll see what happens and what the real cost is before anything.)
So, what do you think? |

I'm also thinking if we had many people who could pay the studio upfront, that the right studio would be willing to negotiate. I _doubt_ that every single studio EVER makes the maximum amount of money possible.
If we found one that was hurting for cash and provide them with more than they currently make on average, we could probably save much more as a whole group and get more time. But, we'll need the people before anything happens. |

Thank you.
I will tell all of you don't need me if you are motivated as hell. I do not want to be a leader, I just proposed the idea and I'll join when I'm good and ready. :D
If you need to find someone, list a bunch of your musical interests, inspiration, what you do musically (play piano, clickety click producing, like making sounds, etc.), who you would prefer to work with, your level of music theory education, and maybe a few tracks of yours that you like and a few other tracks that you like. Just give people an impression of what you represent musically so they can make a good decision. I'd HATE to share a studio with someone I couldn't get along with.
TBH, a site that took all your musical interests and matched people up would be a wicked idea. Then the two of you could set a timeslot with each other and the studio, and maybe even become good musician friends, or even a legitimate duo and do like perform shows together! Who knows?! :D
Make sure you have a bunch of tracks and ideas ready and organized neatly when you drop by. Don't forget to bring your blank CDs or whatever else you need. Download a pro tools demo and get familiar with it, because you don't have any time to sit and learn ? Time is of the goddamn essence here.
Really, if you're interested, just take this idea and run with it. If it grows to something awesome, I'll be happy. I might set something up in December. Not enough free time right now. =/ |

Some won't, some will. The point is that we need to collaborate beforehand. On top of that, what studio would turn two musical duos who happen to be friends with each other. In what way is that a suspicious situation? Money is money, is it not? |

I believe most studios want the entire amount up front. Also, how do you know studios don't have terms and conditions that unable you to bring in a certain amount of people. It really depends on the studio, as you said, I recommend you do your due diligence for this idea to work, if possible.
I'm definitely interested in this! Good idea. |

Mastering's a whole other ballgame. You either need the know-how, or have to pay another hundred dollars to someone (to rip you off) to do it for you. But mastering can be done on your home stereo if you have the know-how. Not trying to bring you down, just trying to save you money if you think studio time automatically = a good mastering session. |

| Nah man, it's a tough thing... Took me couple years to even start understanding mastering, and it's still not perfect lol... It's really trial and error and someone who understands it needs to guide you step by step and train your ear to tell yourself "that doesn't sound good" and "that sounds good"... I'm not sure if it's better to invest money into a mastering class or something, or just pay for a masterer when you think your tracks are worth it, and have potential. |
