Yes, MOTU 24 I/O is one example. Lynx Aurora is another. |

One thing I forgot to ask... The 1394a adapter on the new desktop I'm buying will not work with a Firewire 800 interface, will it? I take it I'd have to have 1394b to run an 800? It will however run Firewire 400, yes? Thanks again :) |

Bump :) | I don't know which kind of FW connection you got on your PC, but yeah that is possible.
There are 2 types of FW connections, the 400 and the 800. If your PC has a 400 and your soundcard a 800, than you have to install a additional FW800 card.
If I am not mistaken, the 400 is the small one and the 800 is the big one. This has to do with max speed the connection can carry. |

There's 4pin, 6pin and 9pin connectors.
4pin : firewire 400
6pin : firewire 400 + power supply
9pin : firewire 800
I'm not 100% sure though. |

Fire wire b is just the shape of the plug... Not sure what it looks like or whether its 400 or 800 or both...
Its like usb b type plugs are the funny square shaped ones, and you can get USB b and a in both usb 2 and usb 1... |

the firewire 800 is one bad plug man, it falls out of the computer without even touching it, stay away!! |

I think I've decided on my AI now. I'm going for the MOTU 828mkII through USB 2.0 now, not Firewire. I will be recording vocals, acoustic guitar eventually and (possibly) Piano, not together though, each will be placed into separate productions. What are your opinions on this? Also my OS is Vista Home premium, so anyone with experience with both please share advice! Thanks a lot :) |

Good choice for a mid-level interface, but seriously, get the Firewire version. USB 2.0 has a few disadvantages with it comes to high-bandwidth applications such as audio.

Thanks a lot, very useful link there, however, I just don't have the funds for the MK 3 right now. Would it really make a big difference if I went with the USB option? Vocals and Acoustic are my main priority which shouldn't cause too much of a problem I hope :( |

Yes it will, I highly recommend you stay away from any USB audio interfaces. You'll have nothing but problems with their driver stability. |
