with no academic association right now, would an academic version of cubase still work on my computer?
Fledz
Why wouldn't it? You just need to be a student when you buy it. After that it's yours and works normally. It's not a academic version anway, it's the full version Cubase 4, just that you get it at an educational discount.

That reminds me though, I've got a month to buy it at that price before I finish uni.

No, because its scans you computer for evidence of being a student (unfinished essays, lots of pirated "materials") and if these aren't found, it won't run.

I thought that was called being a guy, not a student :conf:

Just remember, releasing commercially with educational versions is often illegal due to the restricted license ;)

Coz Steinberg will know. And they wil hunt you down.
Yeah I had the porn in there, but decided to remove it, since not all students are guys, and some are just neutered.

**What is the difference between the academic software and the commercial versions?
Academic software products are functionally identical to the commercial versions - the big difference is the special academic price. Parents and Students are eligible to purchase software at this price. These are licensed retail sealed software packages. Software is unused & unregistered, full 12 months warranty included.

But...why go through all that when the Steinberg website has it on there: http://secure.keyfax.com/mm5/mercha...tegory_Code=SEE

Yep. The educational version puts super high frequencies into your audio output causing low frequency anti-aliasing artifacts which will up your music if you use a system that goes very loud (like in a club).

Steinberg has people all over the world scouting clubs every weekend for tracks written on educational licenses. They've been trained to hear the artifacts. The ask the DJ what track was on and you're ed.
