So looking at this list for the past 5 years or so tells me that trance music is and has been the most popular form of dance music (lol duh). What I don’t get is if it’s so popular how come any time I go to a digital download site (beatport, djdl, kompakt, xpressbeats, traxsource,w/e) to purchase music trance music seems to be nowhere near the top in terms of sales. I mean if it is so popular why does it seem to me that it is constantly being outsold by other forms of music. And if it is being outsold by other kinds of music would that not be reflected in lists such as these?!

I don't get it. :wtf:

sure, but look at iTunes or even retailers... if you go to their "dance section" Tiesto is all you'll find lol

This is true ... when you go to an HMV in the suburbs, in the electronica / dance section it will mostly be Armin van Buuren, Tiesto, Dance Nation 1 through 1895718

HMV downtown has some pretty good selections. Some good bargains too. Bought Max Graham's Transport 4 for 9.99 the other week

maybe so....but these lists show clubs and producers which DJs people want to see.....if you fall off the list you can become out of site out of mind....so even if he gets paid more then most DJs...it won't matter if he only gets half the gigs.

Hardly. With the exception of the top 10, clubs don't pay attention to the list, and anyone with half a brain doesn't go to see a DJ because they made # 24 on the DJ Mag list. Talent buyers book by what sells in their particular market. The DJ Mag top 100 does not dictate what's popular in every market.

:(

But it's ok, he was finishing school this past year, so he's really going to tear it up in 2009.

Top 100 what?

Grossing?

Mass appeal?

Talent? lol

How does one measure talent if the poll is based on that? Subjectively speaking, I would flip this poll completely upside down if that were the case. But it still wouldn't make sense, really.

So obviously the list is about your 'favourite 100 djs'...I can't see how it can be based on anything but. So it needs to be renamed for the slow, impressionable types. It's all about semantics these days :p

I just wish the list came in two-ply.

It is.

Since you are voting for your favourite 5 DJs...

The poll reflects the 100 most popular DJs. Plain and simple since you can't really judge talent like that.

Some needs to build a talent meter in order for that to happen.
