.......The Prodigy and Chemical Brothers on MTV. Migrated to trance circa 2000 after hearing Oakenfold's Tranceport. Eventually dropped the 4x4 monotony for Drum & Bass.

EDM itself does not, but EDM community often does. Just look at posts by TAs in threads about drugs.

Not really an "event" but it was definitely Paul Oakenfold's 'Tranceport' compilation what got me hooked.

When I was a kid my parents pretty much dictaded what I listened to at home and on the car...stuff like 80's pop, modern jazz (not sure if that's the right word but stuff like Lee Ritenour, Manhattan Transfer, Pat Metheny, Rippingtons, etc.), The Beatles, Deep Purple, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Santana (his pre-Supernatural work), Stevie Ray Vaughn, Boston, Kansas, etc.
Then, growing up it was pretty much 90's music (alternative, rock, etc.)

College

I study Engineering in Telecommunications in college and I work at the Equipment Maintenance & Repair division of a major marine shipping company.

Trance, and not really.

Pretty much all styles of House (Tech, Funky, Deep, Progressive), and banging Techno.

-I was playing FIFA 2002 and the soundtrack of that game (esp Gouryella - Tenshi) grabbed my attention and started to get me seriously into trance

Trance (duh), Yes, but only old stuff, or the 2% of new stuff that i consider to be on a par both on a creative and interesting level.

Tech-house, any genre that has melody line or simple structure that allows me to relate with trance from 1995-99.

Yes. No idea, don't use them myself. But you'd be a dummy not to see it if you go out regularly. People use illegal or prescription drugs for recreation.

Not song, thats too difficult. But everyone should catch the Dutch Dimension 2002 liveset from Tiesto. That is the peak of trance, and variety, in terms of my listening experience. |
