Quite nice set from Armin, I must say. But that's his strenght - long live sets. When it comes to live performance, this guy knows how to rock the dancefloor. And when he has >2 hours to do so, then...:eyespop: :eyespop:

Thats the strength with most DJ's, nothing really special. The real DJ's (just a few) who stand out from the main stream can also do it in one hour.

No, that's not. Recently, there are more and more "DJs" who all they can do is mix a set using Ableton at home for their radio show (because every single DJ has one these days). And when it comes to spinning live - :wtf:

Spinning a GOOD 5 hr set is WAY more difficult than spinning a 1h one, filled with current hits. Making a great, several hours show - that's a challange.

yes, okay, indeed, but youre miscomparing things here. im talking about livesets (sets like this one), not those stupid home mixes every one makes. we were talking on this specific set from AvB, and (to me) this impresses me more then a standard 1 or 2 hr ASOT 'set'.
one cant compare these sorta 6 hr livesets with regular Ableton made homemixes, or even weekly radio broadcasts.

the point isnt on how difficult a 5hr or even a 10 hr set is, its on why these sort of sets usually get better response. and since were of course talking about the more wellknown DJ's (who are all able to do these sort of livesets, cuz thats what to do), its logic they express themselves better in 2+ hr sets. that has always been so, and will never change ;)
except for some real good DJ's, who are able to do the trick even in 30 / 60 mins livesets (like the performances on e.g. Loveparade)
also, Schulz is able to catch a certain atmosphere in his monthly GDJB World Tour livesets (which thus are recordings of a set he did in some metropol somehwere in the world. tonight he'll broadcast a new World Tour set, if im correct)
Coxx
does anyone know the name of track 64 ???
BlackHole
Mojado - Naranja (ID Remix)

It is a mashup of several Mojado sounds... There is a bit of "Arena"

You misunderstood me - I guess I messed things up a bit;).
What I wanted to point out is that many guys who CALL themselves DJs cannot really do a proper, long LIVEset, so that's why I think not every 'DJ' is better when he spins long LIVE sets. I just think that spinning extended sets is more difficult, and the ability to compile such sets is a mark of DJ's class. That's why I think Armin is a good DJ - he's capable of delivering great long performances. And not just long, but amazing gigs - interesting from the beginning to the end. I didn't intend to compare asot and all of its follow-ups to LIVE sets, actually. It's just as you said - they're completely uncomparable.
So I guess that was a bad example. Anyway, these guys shouldn't be called DJs, which solves the problem:D

Ha, good point. I never came across of a long 5h set i didn't like so I guess you're right - these sets are, in terms of response, "always better"

Damn, I wish that 11h hour monster PvD did someday (97?) was recorded:eyespop: :toothless

Very good example - indeed many of the LP sets are masterpieces. And they're never longer than 20 min (well - 30 min in recent events).

And, to all Live fans: I don't have anything against this program.;) It's an amazing piece of software, with practically endless possibilities. I use it too and I think it's amazing. It's just that all the people who use it shouldn't call themselves DJs just because of it. And that's the case recently...

indeed. again, i was only talking about he more wellknown dj's (e.g. the dj mag top 500 dj's. plz dont flame me for this being said). if you would extend this thought of large livesets to ALL dj's, of course my idea wont hold.

there are plenty. if im right, i have 10 hr liveset from the master himself, Danny Howells. such sets are the win!

the older PvD sets which were recorded (pre 200 era) are usually small (30 mins), but SOOO full of energy .... :shivers:

true, but first learn mixing with a set of 2 pieces round polyvinylchloride, filled with grooves; then start mixing with 3 decks, going back n forth from 1 to 2 to 3 to 1 to 3 to 2 etc ... if youre capable of doing that, switch to cd's. then start using ableton. there's no use in using such program if you have no idea what real dj-ing means (and if you cant do it)

isnt it perhaps Mojado - Kaktus (or one of those tracks from that 4 vinyl set of Mojado)?

slyght
Is that recording in the first post the only available? Downloaded it but quality seems to be poor to me :(

At least an up2date cue sheet would make me happy ;)

Yep, that's what I meant. So I guess we reached an agreement;)

Yes, but there are many longer ones too. Damn, that was the time... Almost every set = pure quality, sheer energy. And now...:( But PvD got better this year, anyway. Hopefully he can keep it up.

Very well said. Although I don't think there are many people who would actually follow the path you suggested. But that's the way should be, IMHO. 'Manual' mixing enables you to understand what DJing is really about.

I'm not a DJ (But who knows, someday? Maybe I'll take it up as a hobby?;)), but I use Ableton from time to time, mainly for 'remixing' (pick up a track, change this, change that etc.)

love this expression:D

BTW: are you a DJ yourself?
