Just think of it from a taxation point. If the company is not based in the US, it can pretty much avoid taxation by making claims that portions of capital were gained abroad when they were not. This is one of the many reasons...it also can not regulate these businesses effectively...giving them certain unfair advantages to businesses that must comply to stricter regulations and taxation. Regulated companies already use creative accounting techniques...what you suggest would be a nightmare for the US gov.

I never considered that, but good point.

So line the pockets of a select few?

Corporate lobbyists try to get the government to do just that. They often succeed.

What good is a "free market" to you when you're the top dog? When you're on top, you want to get extensive regulations, legal barriers, and high market entry requirements that will prevent little guys from competing with you.

Agreed, but in the US they also know they can be broken up if they become too anti-competitive and monopolistic. It happened to AT&T (lol we come full circle and the only major telco that is part of the former mabell that isn't part of the reformed mabell is Verizon) and ALMOST happened to Microsoft.

pretty much, but the US forces free trade & investment down everyone's throats, but only when it suits it.

let's be honest, americans don't like it when someone comes from abroad and makes more money than them. But, look at all those immigrants that made it big in the US (e.g - Andrew Carnegie with his steel company) & some other i don't remember.

so what? it's called capitalism, that's what I say. I've always supported foreign investment - as long as it benefits this country (a win-win situation if you will).

if you follow this 'let's keep jobs in america' mentality, you are stepping on the exact same philosophy that 'capitalism' was bred upon. I suggest you keep those markets free, for the sake of all the capitalists out there.

i have no problem with free trade agreements or laws that aim to bring down barriers between nations. what i do have a problem with is the US' tendency to push free trade in certain areas, whilst completely ignoring them in others. the government's continued subsidy of farmers is an example of this.
