Can someone help me out?

I listen to music @ work using windows latest media player version on a new Dell.

The problem is that the sound will sometimes stop when it is playing a song. I will look at the player and the track is still running. Sometimes the sound will return other times I will have to reboot my computer in order to hear anything.' ( kind of acts like a skip on a vinyl record)

When this happens, I have tried to stop the song and close the media player and reopen it. Then I pick a new song or try internet radio but the sound does not return.

I am stuck becuase I cannot download winamp or something else like it becuase I am only allowed to have mgmt approved software on the computer.

It is pissing me off becuase it seems to happen during a build up on a song and then nothing.

please help me.

just pick up the pointer with your mouse and move it a bit to the right (2-3 minutes in the set)

Off course you can use winamp! It is legal software

Yeah get hold of winamp, windows media player kills you system resources, so any other use of the computer can cause the music to stop. Otherwise it maybe the sound card drivers not installed properly, or being slightly out of date, or even the wrong ones :)
apri_peel
try real player instead
cycloptor
real player is poop.... takes over everything and has crap audio and video quality. i hate it with a passion.

I would like to be ably to use anything BUT Media Playa, but our systems admin @ work will remove any programs not approved by mgmt. Therefore i am stuck with that pos.

the computer is less than a month old. can the drivers be outdated already?

any other suggestions?

thx for the ideas.:) :)

maybe the drivers are not installed properly, happens sometimes
try reinstalling the player too, maybe it wasnt installed properly
computers are not always perfect, they always screw up somewhere
