It's this kind of destructive "humor" that is so prevalant today that I am finding offensive. Insulting a total stranger because you don't like the way she looks.
Imagine if she already had a complex about her looks and this pushed her over the edge and she killed herself. People have done it for less. Imagine it was your sister and this made it all too much for her and you lost her because of it. Funny, isn't it? No, I thought not. But hey, what are you complaining about? It made millions of people laugh (at your sister) so it must be alright.
And she's not even ugly at all. Those are just bad pictures. There are millions of uglier people on social networking sites. This makes me want to vomit, for example. And I have first hand experience that it's a horrible person, too. Ellie (the bullying victim in this case) isn't. |

There's a fine line between political correctness and common decency. This is on the same level as the worst sort of school bullying and diminishes not only the perpetrator but the audience too. And bullying is all it is. It's bullying at its most cowardly. The 4chan kids who started this more or less set out to destroy her. They bombarded her Myspace page with spam, left messages telling her to kill herself and all sorts of pathetic personal attacks on her simply because of the way she looked in those photos. Why is that funny? I fail to see the "lulz".
She had done nothing to them. Why should they feel so superior because they could set out to demolish her self esteem? That's exactly what it amounted to.
I'm not exactly an active member of those forums, but I've browsed for a few years now and I honestly expected better from the people here.
THIS (on the left) is a member of Tranceaddict forums, and another member was banned for ridiculing the way he looks. Why is it any more acceptable to slander her? |

Well, everyone knows that Neo is a hardliner. Although it all depends on the forum you are doing this is also, but really, if you can't handle the heat, get out of the kitchen. That's exactly my point. People will spare their friends from humiliation, but when it's someone they don't know and there's a huge crowd ganging up and ridiculing that person, everyone just jumps on the bandwagon. You wouldn't like it if she was your friend, sister or daughter.
I'm not specifically accusing people in here of bullying her. Most likely she doesn't know about this thread, but she does know about the original thread bodybuilding.com thread, plus the hundreds of personal attacks she received on Myspace and this "article" on Encyclopedia Dramatica, a site that's just basically one huge online bullying portal which largely just insults "ugly" or "retarded" Myspace or Youtube personalities.
She claimed none of this bothered her, but she did start four blogs about the subject and ultimately deleted her Myspace account after being bombarded with spam and attacks, so most likely it probably did have an effect on her. |
