umm. How are you connecting your laptop to your mixer? Just plug in a RCA cable to the output of your mixer and the line input i think into your soundcard. I use audacity for a recording program. It works and its free.

I am trying to use Gigaport AG with 8 channels output, I am not sure how everything should look like. I really dont want to use my laptops soundcard and use my external one. It seems like there is no recording input for my card. I will try to take a picture of my setup and link it if it helps.

then it might be easier for us to help you

from what i can tell, you don't have an input on that card, you'll have to get an RCA to 1/8" stereo adapter and use your laptop's input

Ya you should be able to use your external soundcard, as long as it has the right inputs. Def take some pictures, then we will probably be able to notice the problem right away.

When i was using my laptop to record (which did'nt have any input line) i used my M-Audio Audiophile to connect through USB.
