Synths!

Does anyone here know anything about synths and what they sound like? Cuase i'd like to know what kind of synths acts like Cosmic Gate, Green Court, Flutlicht, Tiesto, SHOKK and the like, use. I need to get new samples for my and i'd like to know what kinds of synths (and possibly effects) those groups and artists use to get those nice uplifting, deep and evocative synths.

I'm working on a new track, and i don't exactly have a synth, nor melody yet, but once i have a synth, i should have a melody to match. I'm a generally beat-focused producer, so that type stuff is easy to comeby. Synths are a different story, so any info regarding the sound common to Hard and Uplifting tracks would be highly greatful.

- Thx

I know that the Acess Virus synth is a must have synth for all producers.

Ya, synths are always the hardest part. Even just to match them to the song. What I do when I can't find a good synth is just put some simple ones and combnine them together. I just play around and usually end up with something good.

A few suggestions :

1. You'll get a better response if you post this request in the 'production studio' section.

2. You need to specify whether you want hardware or software synths, in what price range ... there's such a good range of trance capable synths out there, you'll never be able to get good advice from a generic trance listeners board like this unless you say super specifically you want a sound like 'Out of the Blue' or something like that. Get hold of a good electronic music production magazine like "Computer Music" or "Sound on Sound" and read up on what's hot.

3. Get on down to your local electronic music shop and spend serious time playing about with their display synths until you find one that's got a sound you want. I don't know what it's like in Canada, in London there's a shop called 'Turnkey' that has pretty much every synth or piece of electronic production equipment in the world, on permanent display for their customers to piss about with.

4. In any case, the sort of producers that you've described, and that 'uplifting, melodic' trance sound in general, comprises the use of a lot of absolutely priceless and unobtainable vintage analogue synths. In which case, if you're determined to use those type sounds you'll either need to win the lottery or get hold of a good sampler, or a program with acoustic modelling capacities like Propellorheads Reason / Rebirth, which provides the most faithful reproductions of analogue synths that any of us are ever likely to afford.

you might have more luck posting this in the producers section..

Access Virus? okay i'll check that.

I'm software based. And as for Vintage, they aren't that hard to come by. I've seen plenty in pawn shops as well as music stores that cater to Drums and Guitars more than synths.

Thanks anyway.

how much on average?

can you buy them online?

any good webbys for reviews online?
DJ Chrono
they are about $3000 new (CND).. I got my supernova pro for $1800 used off of ebay.

Just rearch for reviews on any search engine. Personally I am very satisfied with my supernova.. and I believe that it and the virus are the best synths to start out with. you get lots of sounds, and tons of power.

nonooooo I have yet to hear a real minimoog in a trance song. Nowadays virtual analogs are mostly used, like JP8080, Virus, Nord lead, MS2000. $1000 oughtta buyyou a pretty decent VA
