Cops: Family has one thing in common—drinking
THE BLOTTER
November 11, 2008
After a northwest Indiana mother was arrested for alleged drunken driving early Saturday with her 1-year-old son in her minivan, three more relatives came to pick up the child, but police said there was a problem: They had all been drinking.

Kelli M. Thompson, 24, of Crown Point was charged with endangering the life of a child while driving intoxicated after she was pulled over about 12:45 a.m. on U.S. Highway 30, police said. Police told her she could call someone to get the child.

The child's father was first to come, but when he arrived, police said, they discovered he, too, was drunk and charged him with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and driving on a suspended license. Robert Dereamer, 23, of Merrillville was taken to Lake County Jail, where his wife was also being held.

Next, the baby's grandparents showed up. Both of them also had been drinking, police said, but the grandmother who was driving was not over the legal limit, so police escorted them home with the child.

lol wtf. I'm surprised they didn't give the kid alcohol. My parents knew this couple that would give beer to their 5 year old kid. I remember being in parties and just seeing the kid run up to his dad and his dad would just pour him some beer in a cup. So sad.

A great future waits for this kid!

Alcohol is way too harmful for children. I think space brownies/cookies/cakes would be better.

like a strike in bowling. The drunk drivers are the pins and the cops are the ball.

Similar situation with my cousin's kid. At Christmas a couple years back, he was running around and swiping people's beer off the table and taking drinks. The adults praised and cooed him as if he were doing something rewarding. He was a little over 3 at the time. He tried to take my beer but i wasn't having that ; I cracked his hand with a candy cane.

I haven't been invited back for holidays since.
