Yup, that's a good analogy. Speakers of the same language living in different continents may have some trouble understanding one another, but chances are they can communicate if neither of them speaks too fast and have some time to "get used" to the different pronunciation. I think it would be more accurate to compare Mexican Spanish with US English and Castillian Spanish with RP (the UK English you're probably thinking of) though. |
