Woman Finds Another Severed Foot Off B.C. Coast
Wednesday November 12, 2008

A story that can only be described as extremely weird just got a lot stranger. Officials on B.C.'s south coast have found yet another severed foot, this one wearing a New Balance running shoe.
The latest discovery, the seventh to be located along a stretch of shoreline from the Georgia Strait to the border with Washington State, was found on Tuesday by a woman who was walking her dog and spotted something odd sitting on a rock.
"I would have retrieved it but I had my little beagle on a leash and I thought it was too dangerous to scramble down the bank," Diane Johnston recounts. "So we returned later in the afternoon when my husband came back from Remembrance Day services ...
"By this time it was no was no longer on a rock. It was submerged under the water, caught under some driftwood. So ... I climbed down and picked it up from the water."
The Mounties were called and they verified it's the latest in a bizarre, almost surreal series of similar finds in the area.
Like all the previous severed artifacts, there's no indication where it came from or how it got there. They've been turning up in various places since 2007.
This is only second one that was wearing that brand of sneaker. The other instance came when the foot of a woman appeared on May 22nd.
Only two of the feet discovered so far are a match and only one of the strange items has ever been actually identified. DNA was used to match one depressed man to a foot - but that still doesn't answer how it got there.
The mystery has attracted worldwide interest and other than the one I.D., no one knows who they belong to, where they came from or how they're getting so strangely detached.
Johnston remains baffled by her find. "I'm just wondering if it's part of the jigsaw puzzle that nobody seems able to put together."
Unfortunately, the pieces keep coming.

| In lieu of focusing on any new leads, the detectives will isntead balance their efforts on those already available. |
