Possible subconscious fear of flying?

I'm not sure if it was the price it would have cost me to fly to Quebec City (1000 km drive or so) in early July at a day's notice, but I decided to use CraigsList Rideshare & a bus to get there & it took 22 hours. Similar time to get back home, only taking all buses.
Considering how long & uncomfortable it is to do this for such a short (30-hour) trip, is it possible that I may have a fear of flying & not exactly know it? I never flown before mainly due to lack of funds but now seem to be researching long-distance rail & ship travel for some reason. There has to be a reason why I am as interested as I am with non-air travel.
Anyone else have a clue?
PS: Update - Could it also be a possible obsession I have with being 'always connected'? I have a BlackBerry & am therefore on-line always. |

Well, humans aren't meant to fly; people's lack of attachment with the ground make them feel naturally uncomfortable. I can't really explain that logic with regards to sailing on a boat, but it's all I got at 2AM.
I'd rather drive than fly, but I've flown dozens upon dozens of times in my life. I'm fine with it, but there's always a moment or two when I get nervous, though I'll bet its at times when just everybody is nervous (i.e. when the plane lands, etc.) |

Your fear of flying is most likely irrational. Technically, I believe, you have more chance of dying in a bus accident, than in a plane crash.
For me, I prefer flying over busing any day. I hate sitting doing all for so long, even with good music. And it's kind of exciting still, too. Makes me feel like a little kid again :p
And free alcohol on long haul flights FTW! :stongue: |
