I put up a post about a month ago about "fire season" starting. Looks like the weather combined with the Santa Ana winds came a little late.
I hope this doesn't last long. I hate seeing this and being a part of it every year. Not much we can do about this kind of nature's wrath. |

Fire season in California is actually year round, FYI, mainly because of the drought SoCal has experienced for so long.
It annoys me when the news reports that fire season is starting and stuff, because the state considers it year-round these days. I'll find a source.... |

Wow, didn't take long to find a source (this is not where I first heard it, I heard it long ago)
An article from May.

"California's unofficial fire season runs from mid-May through November, but in recent years the state has been on fire alert year-round. Fire activity typically peaks in the fall when blustery Santa Ana winds kick up and ignite dried-out vegetation into a firestorm." |

I don't care what the sources say. I don't mention "fire season" because it's in the news. I mention it because every year I'm right in the middle of it. I know what time of year it is because of the evacuations me, my friends and family have been directly involved in since about 2000 when the rain kinda stopped coming in winter like it's supposed to. Since 00' my parents have had to evacuate twice (once when I was living there...and the other was last year when they had to come stay at my one bedroom apartment). I've had to evacuate two places I've worked at (including our family soccer store) and literally watch the flames come right at our store and house different years until they told us we had to leave. The real "Fire season" comes every year (in the past 7-8 years) between late September and early November when it's still hot in SoCal and those Santa Ana's kick up. It's happening right now which is out of the ordinary. I'm moving out of SoCal in Jan...but will still worry about my family and friends every time this happens.
I can see the glow from my patio in Valencia. Last year I was literally hemed in to Santa Clarita. Fires on 5 different sides of me. Couldn't get out of town. All freeways in or out were shut down or at least backed up. |

Don't have a cow to my response, please.
I was just saying. the media needs to be right when informing the public. It's THEIR JOB. |

Ok. Sorry. Not having a cow :) It just gets way to close to home every year. The media I see is the local news who are generally are reporting within a 2 to 25 mile radius.
I'm tired of it but can't really get too frustrated. It's just a true force of nature. It's just been so commen over the last 8 years in particular I feel like we should be able to do something to stop it...but I know that's not the case. I guess it's better than living in "tornado alley." :) If the fires aren't theatening homes, it's kinda neat to watch. Not fun to breath in though. |

The Montecito fire was two blocks from Oprahs house.
But of course, her home was not affected. ;) |
