Since language is not static, I expect internet and text shorthand to edge its place in not only popular communication but accepted forms of punctuation, spelling and grammar.
Hard copies of media [CDs, records, DVDs, etc] will probably be phased out almost entirely in trade for digital media, insured by distributors for backup, yet easily monitored and restricted in drastic efforts to combat piracy at the expense of both quality of format as well as quality of entertainment - but that's sort of a relative subjectivity.
Hopefully, people in the future will not have lawns. Grass is nice, but resources scarcity will take its toll on fresh water being used to make your ing lawn green. This is already happening more and more in arid climates - I suspect it can only get worse as everything heats up. With that in mind, beaches will still exist, they're just going to move. :p
l8r Florida!
I also suspect that after pandemic and pollution, both things we are ill-equipped to adress technologically and biologically, most animal life we know of will either cease to exist or be far, far different than we currently know it as. Just like in Blade Runner/Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, we'll have to syntesize animals in order to jog people's empathic reactions. |

I wouldn't be that pessimistic about their attention span. |
People have been reading fewer books ever since TV came out, maybe even since radio. I see no reason that new distractions -- YouTube, e-mail, forums, blogs, and so on -- will not add to that trend.
Although I guess there may still be a few retro enthusiasts who will read books. |

By fresh water I meant drinkable. It's far more apparent in some areas, yes, but it will become an issue for everyone in time, I think. |

That is true, there's no disputing that. But, until recently, literacy rates were really low, so reading was reserved to a quite restricted group.
Book readers will probably just be like the old literates. They are a minority, but isn't society made up of minorities? :) |
