Do away with the unions that pay bolt tighteners $50/hr, and pay for performance, not seniority, and you'll turn a profit. |
Exactly why Toyota and Honda have kept profitable while running operations in the US. |

PKC, the US auto industry is. Seriously. A large part of the problem is their labor policies. |

Really? All I ever see is videos of long assembly lines with robots going nuts. My mistake, and im quite mystified as to why the US auto industry has had less luck ing the workers over than they have in australia. Weird. |

GM, Ford, and Chrysler has had a glut of employees that were/are on their payroll that were not actually doing work for them. This has been chronicled many times. Also, they have kept open plants that should have been closed. That is extra workforce that could have been cut to save money they would need now. |

| pkc: I am by no means saying that was the largest problem. Their largest problems by far have to do with THE MOST stale product lines in the whole industry worldwide, the worst reliability ratings of a manufacturer of that that size, and bad management. There are a whole host of other factors that played into it. |

I don't think the unions will disappear, but they will lose their clout if they do go bankrupt. Not only will bankruptcy ruin the whole UAW, it will force them to take even more "concessions" in order to save their jobs. |
