Thing is, what would it be about. The prior shows touched so many bases of the past and future that it would be hard to come up with something interesting enough to be sustainable over multiple seasons. This is why the last series got canceled. Among other things, it was the problem of keeping the audience interested with fresh ideas. Sure a sexy Vulcan helped (and they worked it), but I'm afraid even that wasn't enough for true fans.

imo the last series shouldn't have even been filmed. what a load of garbage. the idea is cool and all about going back to the first enterprise and the journey and all. but what ruined it for me was that even though the timeline was set way before TOS, the "look" of all the technology they had was way superior.

TOS had knobs, buttons, and other crappy things they used to navigate the ship. in enterprise, all the technology looks too modern so for me it doesn't make it believable. to me, the settings of the show are important which is why i never liked enterprise.

however, i think there could easily be another series following the life of a certain ship. there's the whole galaxy to explore! or keep it close to home and have the alliance break down between the federation and klingons or something. or have the federation break up in two opposing factions. i think there would be a lot of interesting events that would have to make that happen which could involve the klingons and romulans playing a big part. i think that there's plenty of possible scenarios to make another show which would have a good story line.

Exactly how I felt when I saw the trailer.

I was never much of a trekkie, but everything about this movie just feels wrong. I realize that all of the ST series were pretty light on the action, and I always found it ridiculous when something would go horribly wrong with the ship and the engineer would sort of briskly stroll down to engineering instead of, say, teleporting instantly, or at least hauling ass. I also realize that it's beside the point.

The allure of Star Trek as opposed to Star Wars or BSG or any of the other sci-fi shows is that it cast humanity as the thinkers and diplomats of the universe struggling with timeless social and ethical questions, as opposed to fighters always trying to defend the universe from evil or defend themselves against insurmountable odds. Excluding the horribly campy original series which really had no unifying theme at all aside from showing William Shatner with his shirt off, that's ultimately what most of the shows and movies were about.

I honestly don't care whether or not it's "true" to the original "vision" - as far as I'm concerned they could have used completely different characters. But I'm disappointed that in their rather transparent attempt to add some flare, the producers seem to have done away with most of the substance.

Maybe I'm being premature in my judgment. Movie previews tend to cherry-pick only the flashiest nail-biting scenes from the actual movie. Nevertheless, nothing in that preview even reminds me of the Star Trek universe. Not the tiniest glimmer. The names are the same, but that seems to be about it. It's as if a crummy fanfic or spinoff somehow made its way onto the desk of a Hollywood director.
