Pure Phunk presents

Each and every Friday night, Pure Phunk brings the funk back to the club district featuring the best in breaks, Bmore, and booty shaking beats provided by some of the best DJ's the city has to offer!
Very special week this week as we welcome our first international special guest: MYAGI. This is a special intimate event as we celebrate the release of his long awaited debut album: "3 Years Of Sunrise"
-------

Myagi aka Andrew Mavor is one of North America's main ambassadors to the world of dance music. From sunrise sets in Australia and packed clubs in the metropolises of China to rocking boat parties in the old heart of Paris, nude beaches in California and a slew of even crazier settings, Myagi's sets have become renowned as one of a kind experiences not to be missed.
Just as comfortable on a festival stage as in a club, Myagi's tour schedule sees him through a wide variety of countries each year with nothing but glowing responses. His sound has expanded to include a wide variety of genres, from progressive house and acid to funky breaks and big banging electro, all perfectly fused together to wring sweat out of even the most discerning dance floor.
In the studio, Myagi has done remixes for indie bands and hip hop stars, for dance music legends like The Crystal Method and Phil Hartnoll of Orbital, for up and coming artists and for stalwarts of the underground.
His music has been in video games, tv shows, films, and nearly every other media format available. He has released over 40 records on various labels through the years, and done exclusive radio sets for shows on the BBC, CBC, JJJ, and innumerable other FM and internet radio stations.
His debut album "3 Years Of Sunrise" has been dubbed "an uplifting electronic masterpiece" by DJ Mag earning a 4.5/5, and has been compared to the classic works of acts like Leftfield, BT, or even the Chemical Brothers.

Stratford-bred DJ has fame everywhere but Canada
Myagi, also known as Andrew Mavor, plays Toronto's Republik nightclub on Friday, Nov. 28.
Stratford-bred DJ Andrew Mavor, who performs under the name Myagi, has played in brimming-full nightclubs in China, boat parties in Paris and nude beaches in California.
His brand of driven, punchy beats has helped him travel the world for most of the past decade. But while Mavor's music has given him international notoriety, he's had little recognition in his home country.
"Certainly a good chunk of it has to do with what is defined as popular music in Canada," the former Torontonian told CP24.com on Thursday, a day before a planned stop in the city he called home before moving to Vancouver.
Mavor recently appeared on the drive-home shows of several popular radio stations while on a trip to Australia, a rare opportunity for a DJ used to being relegated to what many in Canada still consider a subculture, despite its massive popularity.
"Realistically, only guys like Paul Oakenfold -- the HMV top 40-ish DJs -- will ever get that kind of easy coverage up here," says Mavor, who has remixed music for the Crystal Method and Orbital's Phil Hartnoll.
"The rest of us have to fight tooth and nail for it."
Fortunately, success has come naturally to Mavor ever since his days as a trouble-making gifted kid amid Stratford's vibrant music scene.
His recently-released debut record, "3 Years of Sunrise," has been received extremely well in electronic music circles, garnering comparisons to the Chemical Brothers -- one of the few electronic acts to earn enduring popularity in North America's mainstream.
Friday's set at Republik will feature several tracks from the album, says Mavor, a junkie for songwriting and production as well as mixing.
"I tend to be pretty energetic and my material certainly reflects that, jumping from classic old school hip hop and party beats to big banging house and breakbeat numbers," he says.
"The common themes tend to be all on the positive notes, not the negative. I play music that is hard, but not dark."
