The thing I loved about Ultima was the PvP. Nothing was more satisfying than ambushing/ganking someone and picking their corpse.
I've played Everquest, Anarchy Online, WOW, Dark Age of Camelot, and various other MMORPGs (yes I know I'm a nerd), but nothing ever came close to the fast-paced PvP of UO. All the other MMORPG's lame PvP was basically who had the best gear, who was a higher level, and who had the best range.
It's kind of good though that MMORPGs went downhill (at least IMO) after UO because MMORPGs are the biggest time-sink/life-wasters this world has to offer. I've banned myself from ever playing one of those games again. :p |
haha niiice, i almost forget to consider this when thinking of "old-school" games because of how long I've been playing them - but this definitely takes the cake for MMOs, couldn't agree more!
almost all of the MMOs right now are grindfests that are designed just to keep people playing for months upon months for little reward beyond bigger numbers "HEY GUISE, YAY I JUST GOT LV 254 TODAY!!!"
i've proudly kept the Daemon in my sig for... almost 3 years now! this was definitely a favorite of all time |

I voted Tetris... however....
Dodgeball and Super Spike V-Ball for Nintendo were a couple of my all time faves! |

...oh and Contra ftmfw. LOL I just recently played a whole bunch of these on my friend's iPhone, wonder if that's what triggered this thread. All about the fireball spray on auto; nothing could kill me!!!! |

The beauty of Ultima too, is that even though the PvP was so fast paced, put 100 bandages on a couple of skilled PvPers and they could 1on1 for 30 minutes in an 8x8 dueling pit.
Did you guys last long enough to see the champ spawns? I had already quit, but I spent hours some nights watching my buddy and his guild battle with the "Champs" guild over looting the champ scrolls. We're talking MASS battles, 20 on 20 (sometimes with a 3rd clan involved with their own 20 players). Para fields, Poison fields, mass spells, archers, warriors, the works. Those were just giant -fests but hey, they ruined the "Champs" guild-leader's source of income for a year and a half! ^_^ |

Sonic was, is, and always will be superior to Mario in every way.
Sonic 2 was the best platformer ever created. |

Original Contra on the NES was the alltime best, I still remember that cheat code for 99 lives: Up, Down, Up, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, B, A, Select, Start.
Pure awesomeness |

LOLOLOL. Yeah but I think that code was for Super Contra (Super C), unless both games had the same code?
I voted for Contra, even though I really mean Super C. I can pass that game so easily with no cheats. |

oh man...nothing like great old skool games...so many have made great placed in my youth...notible
contra
tetris
mario 3
wonderboy
TMNT
Excite Bike
Double Dragon 2
Donkey Kong 2
Between those, I can't really choose, they were all too awesome:
other more recent 90's
Mortal Kombat 2 (and 3/4 were good too)
NBA Jam (wholey was this game addicting)
Journeyman Project 3 (only medium popular, but one of the best adventure games i've ever played. I could only imagine how insane a game like this would look with today's graphics) |

| I chose Zelda but would have chosen Final Fantasy if it was on the list. Black Mage to Black Wizard was the best! |

You fail, Konami code is:
Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Start
Sometimes select IS added between the 'A' and 'Start' on various Konami games. And in Contra, it's only 30 lives. |
