I really need to make this kind of string sound for my latest project: [[ LINK REMOVED ]]

Can somebody point me in the right direction for these rich, yet kind of brash 80's type strings. It sounds like simple saws to me, but its a specific sound used quite a lot in electro house.

I didn't listen to the clip, but from your description it sounds like an old Roland synth. Easiest way for those sounds nowadays would be a software sampler with a corresponding sample pack.

Cant seem to download the file at the moment. However i think i know exactly what sound you are referring to. Something like a Roland Juno 6/60/106 will make the sound perfectly. these can be picked up very cheap nowadays. Otherwise try the Arturia jupiter 8v or CS80v. You will also easily be able to get the sound out of spectrasonics atmosphere.

the easiest and "warmest" sound will be a juno 6/60/106. It also only has one osc and a sub osc. Its the pwm combined with the classic roland chorus that gives this sound. Try searching youtube for videos on the junos.

If you have a UAD card, try the roland dimension d or boss chorus. These sound amazingly good and very close to rolands original units.

yes, typically just PWM wave with chorus :)

One of my fav 80s sounds is the street hawk theme from Tangerine Dream.

Try FM8! :) I think the Yamaha dx 7 was the BAD BOY synth of the 80s!

On my Juno I use the chorus II for an effect like this, along with the saw and square oscillators both active.

Sometimes I use the LFO to modulate the squares pulse width -- this makes it sound a bit wider.

You could give this a shot:
