Well, I don't agree with you. Trance can have very complicated hat-loops. Simply put a hihat between the kick won't actually do it.

I happen to be doinfg a module at university on black and white music. Basically all pop music trance included came from slave early blues. before that white people were doing doe ray me far etc and playing piano and military band instruments bugles etc. black people came singing with gritty voices dancing with hips and when they were freed and had chance to get hold of white instruments trumpets etc (usually parting gifts from the slave masters) they started playing breaking all the "white rules" pitch bending using semitones and minor scales pentatonic minors etc. they also did the call and response which trance is based on
I woke up this morning (call)
I was feelin blue (response)
trance hook (call)
possibly filtered delay (response)
Hard to do the trance one but if u get me its really interesting white people and the western world have a lot to thank black people for scales dancing, instrumentation articulation of sound vocal delivery everything. |

| Oh and if you really want to get creative make several hi hat loops or for that matter any high percussive sound layer them and filter them all so various things are in the mix or not maybe the high from one and mids from another try out several pattern you end with full sounding loop |

A lot of trance doesn't have much of a call and response, especially the older stuff.
Although I guess you can conceptualize individual pieces within a melody as "calls" and "responses." But that kind of call and response goes back way before African-American music. American dance music itself (swing -> pop -> disco -> house, techno) is certainly an invention of blacks, though. |

I was breakin it down to individual elements ike parts of a melody if a melody was a sentence then there must be an accompanying sentence to make a phrase thats what i was gettin at.
Really interesting music history did you know that elvis was partly the reason for the black music charts and white music charts being merged in USA. He was top of both because of appealing to black and white audiences. They also passed laws so you could not see him on tv below the waist because his dancing was considered to sexual. HOW CRAZY IS THAT.
Were doing the alcohol ban and what effect it had on music at the moment. Illegal blues clubs and stuff well good fun. |

The Mr.Mystery thread is quite a good starting point for me, the hi-hats
have that kind of swing feel which is what i was searching for and his,
example is well mixed.
Actually i have many good hi-hat loops which i can use and sound
great, but im more interested in creating them my self.
I agree with Subtle that the sound of the hi-hats is very important,
so im going to experiement a little more myself and see what i come
up. :-) |
