right, let me rephrase my question for anyone else who chimes in. How is Paul Kalkbrenner controlling Ableton Live with this mixer?

If you look closely you can see he has a Midi Controller directly above the audio mixer. :)

He is using a midi controller to control Ableton. The signals are then routed through the mixer below the midi controller. He is using the mixer, but not to control anything in Ableton Live.

He's using an evolution uc-33 controller in this one (i think) but in a strange way..
:) One cool ****, any other dj sitting down on the job would get flung at him. |

he could possibly be using it as a digital mixer to send data from ableton to the mixer, then launching clips and controlling midi with the uc-33. kind of looks like a mackie eh? onyx firewire?

UGH!!!
hes using the uc-33 for sure, but is the studio mixer which i think is an allen & heath being used as gain control or just to fade channels in and out.
