| Hey all, just wondering if I take a vocal mix of a song and an instrumental mix of the same song, and use certain phrases of each together to restructure parts of the song, could i claim this as "DJ Name Edit" in my tracklist? I don't plan to sell it, merely just use it in an upcoming demo. |

technically all re-edits are illegal but most producers/industry people etc etc doesn't care if it's just an personal edit. in fact, now with the easy ways of splicing up tracks, most dj's edit the tracks to their preference.
it's all about once you make a buck out of your edit you are in danger of cease and desists and all other legal hazards |

| Yes, technically under copyright law it is considered a derivative work, and thus it is forbidden without permission. But I doubt you will get much grief from the copyright police/content owners for your purposes.. |

| Isn't it technically illegal to give away a demo? |
