yes but what do the tickets get you? surely all the millions of people going wont have tickets

I don't believe all the details are finalized yet, but tickets will probably be required for all of the nearby standing areas (enough space, at least, for about a quarter million ticketed individuals.) There may be areas where those without tickets can gather and watch from a considerable distance, though.

Tickets will be needed to get on the National Mall - the parade route may be a different story, but viewlines are going to be taken realllly early.
