reformatting this week won't be too much of a hassle considering i just switched to a new computer at work so i've already got a list and install files for all the programs i use. luckily i don't have too many big programs that i depend on other than CS3.

damn. you must have a nasty virus hanging around your computer. :)

Use Kaspersky AntiVirus trial version and it will find all the spyware that you have on your computer. 98% of other anti spyware never find .
kaspersky >*

after that install ccleaner (free) and always clean your system with it

2 of the worst suggestions ever.

For spyware, use SpyBot because it has a feature that you can turn on for registry monitoring, etc. It is called "TeaTimer" in the options.

For Anti-Virus, if you are ok spending $30 get NOD32. It is THE best, and doesn't slow your computer down really at all. Otherwise AVG.

Also, someone recommended checking the hosts file (C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts) in notepad and make sure there is nothing but a 127.0.0.1 address in there. Also, open task manager and post all the listed processes. :)

how is that the worst suggestion?
you're suggesting to use spybot which is ing horrible imo, it never finds specific types of malware. kaspersky has always eliminated all small types of mallware that cause popups and play random sounds in your bg if you are already infected plus it does not use up your memory at all.

as for ccleaner i don't get your beef with it, you sounds like you never even used it. Best sofware to clean up your computer and have it perform better.

you have to be a complete moron to spend 30bucks for antivirus software. Use trial, delete spyware, delete trial.

I have seen CCleaner and the lot of those types of programs do more damage. They are . Avoid them.

And as for the pay thing, I don't act like I am anyone that matters, but I also am not going to say "get this software illegally from here" on this board. I am sure she knows where to find it.

And Kapersky is a piece of . It was pretty low on the list of actual cleaned infections of many things.

Furthermore, I would never say use just ONE spyware/adware remover. It is best to run Ad-Aware with SpyBot. This works best.

a bunch of our users experienced something similar where malwarebytes (normally always effective) wouldnt run. this program seemed to take care of all of them: http://www.simplysup.com/

well before bashing it how about you try it first and see how much damage it does not do, it's very good software and ive used it for over 3 years.

kaspersky is known to be one of the best av software including malmare and spyware removal, again how about you try it before talking smack. I've tried all if not most spyware removal programs in the last 6-7 years and they are absolutely worthless, the only find the most known spyware trojans, kaspersky is updated almost daily.
The only other good software for finding uknown processes running in the system is HijackThis.

i disagree w/the ccleaner comment. i use it almost daily & have it installed it on hundreds of machines. in fact i always run it b4 a malwarebytes scan in order to clean out junk files/folders & the registry. not only that it has a Startup group list which is very handy to see everything that is loading w/Windows.

Updated daily lol that's a feature you tout? ing idiots. They are all updated daily as necessary. NOD32, Symantec, McCaffee, etc. Shut up already.

And those "performance enhancement" apps are all . Do your homework. They create more problems than they help. ugh it is people like you that perpetuate stupid bull.
