I hope you like it. Should have asked us here for some tips on buying a first gun. I know a few of us are weapons nuts. |

Well, i just returned from Academy sports with my new gun. It's a Taurus PT-111 Millennium 9MM. Academy is having a 3-day sale with it for $229.99. I figured that was just too big of a deal to pass up. I'll be taking it Sunday to the shooting range and see how it performs. Total out the door was ~$259 with a box of ammo. I got my Academy employee discount on the ammo, but unfortunately not on the gun. Still very excited. Time for some training classes and getting my CHL.
EDIT: here is the link for the Academy site: CLICKY |
Not a bad weapon if you are planning to only take it to the range for practice. The action is pretty good and has minimal recoil. Taurus' best weapon is the 24/7 sp-15 .40, imo.
9mm are fun to shoot. But if you are buying a weapon for security or defense, they don't have the necessary stopping power that a .40 or .357 have.
My advice is also Glock or Smith & Wesson MP. I'm former law enforcement. So I can get the military issue for the S&W. |

Is there anyway you can get me a 50 caliber Browning M2 belt-fed heavy machine gun? I have some collector's item Legos that I'm willing to trade. |

I own a Ruger Blackhawk .44 Magnum. When I move into my apartment, I will most likely buy a Springfield XD. A Magnum is way to damn powerful for home protection. I was thinking about getting a 23 subcompact Glock, but I like the Safety features the Springfield XD has to offer. A Glock is not the best weapon to have around if you have a family, wife, girlfriend etc. If your single then it's perfectly ok. |
Yea, my Mom actually likes the idea of having a gun in the house. I was totally confused when i told her i bought the gun. I thought i'd be in the dog house for at least a month. Only my dad and my brother and he's 18. i plan on trying to get them all to come out and shoot it a little. I shot my 9mm and a few of the Taurus 24/7 SS .40 that my friend brought. I like that .40, but i'm definitely gonna save up for a Springfield or 1911
Btw...here's my target from my first shoot Sunday afternoon. I was in the 15-yard portion (figure if i can get accurate at 15 yards, i can do it easily from 5). I'm surprised i hit the target, much less hit a few in the center. First time shooting a gun in a very long time.

Wow, that is awful. Get back to the range and practice. :D
Some pointers:
When pulling the trigger, try not to anticipate the round firing. Let it surprise you! If not, then your rounds will be either at the top or bottom of your target.
If your round is to the right of the target, then you are pulling the trigger to the right and not straight back.
If your round is to the left of the target, then you are pushing the trigger to the left and not straight back.
Possible Solution: Use the tip of your finger to pull the trigger and PRACTICE.
I'll try to find a good picture of how to grip the pistol.
The Combat Handgun Grip
Good Luck, have fun, and keep the rounds down range!
Please check out this guys forums.

| Yep always remember to have a surprise trigger break and to use the tip of your finger on the trigger (don't wrap your finger around the trigger). |

Just use .44 special rounds then if you think magnum rounds are too powerful. I have a Glock 23, and my opinion is that it sucks. |
