How to create Radio Sets?
View this Thread in Original format

hi guys

my first activity here, is a question:

we all know the many sets, like Essential Mix, Selcetion, RadioFG , F** me im famos etc.

my question is, which software they use to create those sets?
they do it by weekly, so of corse a david guetta not stay every week in his studio in front of 3 cdj and mix and record a set for a radioshow.

they should use a other way..

first i was thinking they use software like mixmeister

but i think they do it with other...

what you think, how they make it?

hope to get a good idea.

Essential Mix is dependent on the DJ mixing it - some of them do it on a pair of decks in their studio, some put it together in Ableton/Pro Tools or whatever and some are recorded live in a club.

It is actually quicker to record a radio show in one take with a pair of decks than it is to fake the whole thing on a computer (I've got a fair amount of experience doing it both ways), so unless he's really worried about messing the mixes up I expect Guetta DOES just record it in his studio on a set of CDJs. It's possible someone puts the music together for him then he records the talking over the top, but tbh it would still be less time consuming all round if it's just done in a single take.

Also remember that some of the shows on "proper" radio stations like Pete Tong's Essential Selection on Radio 1 are just done live from a studio at the station, while Judge Jules' show is pre-recorded because he's out DJing in clubs when it's on the air, but he still goes in to the studio at the station to record it.

But if you were to forge a radio show (i.e. not in real-time), Ableton, Pro Tools or even Sony Acid would probably be the favourites. Possibly Adobe Audition - I dunno if you can warp tracks with that.

Guetta would have enough experience mixing to not worry about ing up a set imo. I doubt they do it any other way but live. Some shows may be prerecorded, or edited in some ways, but I think most are done live.

Dude the show airs at 3 a.m. Saturday in Britain. Yea right it's live. It's pre-recorded but obviously done in one shot.

You just failed at being pompous, sir. You have to do it right, and you just did it wrong.

And the problem is? DJ's are naturally morning-people you mean?

i just record on my decks and then add the vocals over top as a "new layer" per say

Not regular on the forum, but would like to give my inputs.

Im aware that Armin mixes his ASOT using ableton. Also they are prerecorded as I remember reading that since he travels so much he compiles the show in his hotel rooms/on aircrafts et al.

i am not trying to be pompous...i have seen guetta live unfortunately and he can't mix...end of story.

+1

or just make your mixes un-tight when ur planning on talking so u have time to talk before the melody/bulk of the song actually kicks in

Yea I got dragged to seeing him at Opera one night. Needless to say I was suffering the whole time.
Mr.Mystery
1. Get your crew to pick the tracks for you
2. Get someone to warp then for you in Ableton
3. Profit
