possum / oppossum?

I keep seeing one of these things in my backyard. Four nights in a row now. Are they dangerous? Normally I would say it - we have lots of trees in our backyard and there is always some kind of critter around (squirrels, raccoons, etc.)
But I don't know anything about these possum dudes
Are they dangerous at all? I can't find that much info
I remember once seeing a woman on the news freaking out and screaming and calling the police because there was a possum in her backyard and it was hissing at her :nervous:
This thing just seems to be chillin though :conf:

Neither.

They're not really dangerous unless they're rabid. Usually they just eat your pets' food and stuff like that. They're pretty resilient though. One of my roommates shot it in the face with a .22 about 3 times point blank before it finally died. |

Ya there are a bunch of those here in the south. Unless they have rabbies, they wont attack. But they are not friendly either so dont go petting them. |

I'm just wondering if I should call the city to have them do something about it. We just got a new eavestrough put in and I read that they like to make nests on the roof
I just don't want my dad to find out about it... last time we had raccoons, he made a sling-shot out of wood and would go out at night and try to shoot them with rocks lol |
