Yeah shaolin, you should know that those of us who detest those types of threads do so just as much due to the content of the threads and their infinite repetition as to the manner in which debate is conducted by those that bring the subject up. As you generally put some thought and consideration in your posts, you can hardly be lumped into the same category of miscreants for whom pkc and I have a mutual disdain.

That honor is reserved for the select few who insist on only contributing the same old things to threads about the new world order and government conspiracies and dodging any actual discussion there or anywhere else in the subforum.

Yes; what we detest should always be muffled by route of our own legislation.

So put it in a poll then.

:wtf:

ing christ, if 8 out of 10 people agree on something dosent mean the other two dont even get a chance to voice their opinion. Get a clue.

That's exactly what I used to say in the beginning.

Then I realised I had to impose a few limits, because there were endless arguments and flame wars, reason why I posted those 7 simple rules. I've been really cautious before doing any kind of intervention, but I realised that this laissez-faire approach of mine is probably one of the reasons why this forum has become so dull that it's become more interesting to discuss politics and philosophy on the CORe... which is a heavily moderated forum, ironically.

By the way, shaolin, I'm talking about this thread. Have I limited any of the opinions here?

Now, instead of crying and complaining your freedom of speech has been disrespected, can you guys please give constructive opinions and ideas on how to revitalise this forum? Jesus, stop blowing this out of proportion.

Sadly, this is absolutely true.

You're kidding, right? The fact that one of Obama's 25 economic advisors was a member of a secretive fraternity is proof that he's out to run the whole world into the ground?

This is one of the more extravagant examples of what Lira is talking about.

Ehh, I shouldn't have been so shallow in my statement, I came across as a bit ignorant. :P

I was referring to a link found within the post itself; the post itself being rather insane.

In essence, I rescind, the comment itself was out of context. Had the initial post in the thread in question been more coherent and less paranoid, an open discourse on Obama's foreign policy, etc. could have been had, or one could hope.

It's evident this forum is so divided that civil or productive debate has been rendered into rarity.

well, maybe they can go have their 'open discourse' on prisonplanet, where no doubt the deeply-important policy discussions concerning masturbating in coffins can get their due attention and maybe change the world

And you can go post in the gaming forum, where you seem to have productive ideas and socialise like you don't have an Xbox up your ass. :P

I don't take cues from Alex Jones, my yout'.

Coffin-masturbation, while hilarious, has no place in the forum; I'll agree with you that much. :wtf:

..You tend to generalise a bit, don't you?

quote:

you would have to be one of the worst "judges" of just about anything in the PDD. so, coming from you, this statement is quite the compliment.

No bias there.

1. This deserves a thread on its own.
2. Although I'm not really in a position to criticise and suggest, being mostly a lazy lurker rather than a rich contribution to this board, here's what I was thinking:

- First, you will never again have this kind "euphoria" of the PDD's beginning stage. Back then, a handful of brave pioneers, lead by the great Izzy, were ready to emigrate from the CORe and establish a new home for the well-read, the Decartes lovers, the geeks and Middle Eastern zealots. A place of unlimited freedom for fruitful debates of infinte depth and wisdom. Everyone was extra motivated to pump this board up and demonstrate his cognitive abilities to the fullest. Well, this first motivational boost and that show-off phase are history. All the newbs are nowadays taking the PDD for granted, not realizing what extreme sacrifices needed to be made, what wars had to be fought, so that it were born. What is not appreciated is not treated accordingly.
- Too many threads. Not justified by the same number of topics. In fact, it's more like a daily soap with the same recycled storylines presented each time in the shape of another copied and pasted news article. However, I'm not sure if a limited number of "mega-threads" is a better alkternative. Say one sticky thread of the financial crisis, one for US domestic policy, one for the mid-east conflict, one for everything coming from Ahmadinejad's mouth etc. Such threads would soon become an endless game of ping pong between only 2 or 3 diehards, quickly scaring away all other potentially interested parties. It's just that nowadays 85% of the threads here are a quoted news article and 3 or 4 comments, none of which indicating that the author has even read the entire article. Perhaps raising a simple question or stating a provocative thesis without adding a 5.000 word interview would be enough if not better?
- Beyond the structural/organizational measures, something more personal: Everybody, get a ing grip: Don't post for the sake of posting. Don't keep running some sort of campaign by dropping a few lines that support your general "agenda" on every remotely related occasion. Read, think, respond - to the topic and nothing else. And if you can't come up with something, don't force yourself. Better have a thread die than this forum be flooded with pseudo-political semi-spam.
Krypton
You can't debate with the church of conspiracy theories. I think the 9/11 threads have already taught us that. They are here to bring us to the light, we who are in darkness.

Lira I agree with your decisions. If anyone wants to talk about conspiracy theories, there's plenty of conspiracy threads to search and post in.

This world is in recession, so is this room..

There is nothing interesting to discuss in world politics.. as their is no politics anymore..

During and after 9/11 I remember lot of heated arguments about Iraq and alike.. but after that everyone saw how US govt dosent give a about political opinion of people and does what it wants to do.. invade and kill and rape and poop and destroy and burn and shoot and kill.

What is their intelligent to discuss about you s?

Give it a break, their is no politics right now, its all dictatorship, dictatorship from USA.

So dont blame the people who oppose it.

Brand naming it 'conspiracy'? Go follow your FOX, CNN bull..

If their is nothing more interesting to discuss than the 'conspiracies' as you would like to call it, than close this Room temporarily for next 3-4 years..

Orelse go invade Iran and make Iraq so that this room comes alive again and you get interesting things to talk about.
