the place here doesn't have the models i'm interested in, they have the 1030 genelecs and white adam a5's, that's about it.

my question is, how do you guys feel about both brands? specifically the 8030A's (Stereo Powerpak with sub) vs. the A7's by Adam or any other comparable model/brand of monitors

looking to replace some gear, monitors being the most important. currently i'm without a sub, on event alp-5's. i'm interested in a sub and some quality monitors, no budget for now, just throw in some suggestions

:)

i don't know the adam's. but keep aware that the successor of the 1030 are the 8040 and not the 8030.

My label partner has the A7's and said they sound class
Lunar Phase 7
What's wrong with the ALP5's??!

Airbase uses them!

Seriously though, I was thinking of buying those...

Not to hijack your thread, but how do these sounds for 200?

nothing wrong with them, i've just outgrown them and one is ed (woofer is rumbling like a bitch), but that is my fault.

i still have my tr-5's lying around, got the alp-5's together for 150$, steal so i took em off the kid.

i've heard the 8030's, they sounded great but at the same time, sounded a bit "inside", muddy if you will.

ADAM Audio P22A
Dynaudio BM 6A

You'll be fine without a sub.

i brought home both the genelecs & adams to demo in my studio. Adams are by far the best sounding speaker i've EVER owned... and even EVER listened to. they are amazing, hands down the best(in my opinion).

Regardless of the ADAM's, what did you think of the Genelec's?
I'm soon going to test the Gen's against some Dynaudio BM5A.

my friend Scott(old deepsky) has them and we used them on a few records. They're great speakers but not sharp enough for me in the top end. The genelecs were a bit harsh/metal sounding in the 7k+, the Adams use ribbon tweeters and are the most accurate speakers i've ever heard.

Thanks for the heads up. Seems I'll have to put Adam A7 on the list too :)

The genelec 8030/8040 and Adam A7 sound pretty identical to me. The 8050 doesn't need a sub woofer though, it's excellent on the low-end.

I had a change to listen genelec 8030 and adam a5+sub/a7 and s3a in same room. My opinion Adams are better for mixing! Your ears wont stress so much with adams, so you can listen them more longer. I think they were more accurate also. Genelecs were more "hifi" and bass was muddy. I like the genelecs too because they are finnish product and very good also. But i would/will choose adams.
