Trance is a beautiful thing

I just came back from a party that took place at one of the fraternities at my college. It was a space party, with aluminum foil all over the walls. The set progressed nicely through electro house, into electro, into deep house, and finally into a trance set.

I have been to some parties, USC 5 & 6/ Freaknight in Seattle, Fabric in Madrid, the Love Parade in 2006 in Berlin. But this party was almost as good as anything I had seen. What really set it apart was its trance selection--it was just quality uplifting trance that wasn't commercial and didn't try to kill you with the euphoric peak like a an Alex M.O.R.P.H remix. The reason I've posted this here and not in the party reviews is that the trance really spoke to me and I wanted to reassure some of the neigh-sayers that trance still has it's same captivating emotive dance floor success when done right.

I just listened to Arimin's latest podcast and was really disappointed by it's quality: it closed with some guitar/male vocal nonsense that I felt was really just selling out to the lowest common denominator. It was refreshing to hear trance done right at this party.

For the last hour I just closed my eyes and moved my body to the strange sounds. It was wonderful. There's nothing in the world (that you can do in a vertical position)like soaking up some great trance. I'm hooked again on the genre. Long live trance. Long live Tranceaddict.

:haha:

Although I'm really kind of surprised to hear of any dance music other than big beat being played at a frat party...

OP: what sort of trance was being played?

Yeah, know any tracks that were played?

One example of the sort of tracks that were being played was http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yNo_dgFTUxo and some stuff that featured some big high pass filter runs resolving in techy sounds. It was great, it just flowed so well.

i wish frat parties here featured a trance set, or even any kind of EDM all the way through. top40 or bust in these parts
