M-audio's midi interfaces really suck! They all have driver issues which M-audio doesn't seem to solve. I have the midisport 4x4, sitting away in a low corner of my studio, eating dust so it still has some use ;)
edit: You can also look for a soundcard which has midi onboard. I'm currently using the M-Audio Audiophile 192, which IMO is a great soundcard, low budget too. And.... The drivers are good ;) |

One reason why i got the M-Audio MIDISport Uno was because the guys at the music store where using them! Works fine on my micro Korg! :) |

The Edirol is fine and does the trick, but I've never ever seen any problems with M-audio midi interfaces that weren't user error (service pack problems, wrong drivers etc.).
You use the outputs to control midi devices, such as sending midi information to a drum machine to play back samples or a synth to play back patches. |

Yes. Your keyboard has a MIDI out which goes to the MIDI in on your midi interface.
The thing is though you might be much better off getting a soundcard with a midi interface built in. Check out the M-audio Audiophile 2496, which is a two in, two out soundcard with 1 x midi in and 1 x midi out.
Zsounds have openbox units at only $89 or they go for about $50 - $60 second hand on ebay /craigs list. I know it's $30 - $50 more but it's worth it as that card sounds really good for the money and beats a lot of competition at twice the price. I used one for 5 years and it served me well. If you buy a soundcard later on you will have probably spent a lot more money to achieve the same result.
