people who aren't jewish will say that, but i've learned that many jews identify their heritage as jewish rather than thier original country of heritage. a good example is a friend of mine that i made at college who is very proud of being jewish but is athiest. i always said the same thing as you, but a jewish person will feel differently. they'll say that their people never had a country or their land was taken, etc etc, which i personally would say then you are whatever country it was you were from... i dunno it's weird i think jews and non-jews have different views on that |

Wouldn't that make one Israeli though? Because there are people who are Jewish that have no ancestry in Israel.
I think a lot of the confusion stems from the fact that most people tend to feel that a "nation" must have a country. Do Jewish people consider the group of thier people as a nation regarless of thier country of origin?
Like I have Jewish friends whose parents are from Israel, and they refer to themselves as Israeli. I have other friends who are white Europeans and call themselves Jewish rather than French/English or whatever. |

This can go on and on and on. It would make you an Israeli, just like being born in New York City makes you an American, however, your ancestors are European, etc. Israel also known as Canaan is our homeland and where we come from. No matter which generation you refer to. I am not Israeli, but it is a Jewish state and I am Jewish. Easy as 1 + 1 = 2, at least to me. |
