Any ideas how to get this sort of sound with the Vanguard or with Reason? Here is the sample sound:

And what is the name for a sound like that?
It's not bass really... or is it?

Ah, sorry, I mean the sound that is like a "synth".
It also plays solo at the very end of the loop, for a short part.
I think they use similar sounds in hip hop songs...

I don't know if you're a beginner or not, so I'll be as exact as I can..

To me, it sounds like a simple saw-lead with a little bit of detune (not to much though, just a little). In reason, the simplest way would probably be to use a Malström Synth. Right-click somewhere on the synth and choose "Initialize Patch" to reset the Synth settings (Both Oscillators should now be set to "Sine").

Activate both oscillators. Choose Sawtooth*16 (press the up-arrow to the right, twice). Do the same for the other oscillator. Then just turn the "motion" knob a little to the right, let's say to around "Motion:2", and on the other osc to "Motion:4".

After that press on the Malström synth so it's selected when you're gonna add effect-devices to it. Now go to the "Create" meny and add a "BV512 Digital Vocoder" so it's right underneath the Malström, and connected to it. Then turn the lower left knob from "Vocoder" to "Equalizer". You will hear how the sound get's alot more attack and edge to it.

After that, you can add an EQ to this little device-chain, boost a little in the Upper Mid, and some in the Lower High. Quite wide Q-value. Then finally add a DDL-1 Delay Line and choose 4 steps in the screen to the left. Turn up the feedback knob a bit, and adjust the "Dry/Wet" knob to your liking. In the sample, it's just a simple A-note with a slight pitch-bend downwards. This sounds pretty close to what you're after.

Ok... I did as you told.
And I think I did get pretty close to the originala sound, here is my result:

But for some reason I can't get it go the same way...
I mean the note/melody thing doesn't sound 100% right?

Any suggestions to get the sound more correct?

Its just a very basic detuned sawtooth. Automate pitch, add eq, compress to bring transient attack out a little, job done.

You can probably make this on Thor using a couple of saws and just use the pitch bend( automate it)
I was listening to it on my phone so not sure but u maybe cud try multi osc too
Add some reverb too

noicuc
Are you referring to that hoover like sound??

Im sure you can create this with vanguard..

Just put all osc to sawtooth , turn the fat knob to full , and play around with the portamento.

And lastly , EQ.

That should summarize how to create this sound.
