noob question

| if i compose a track in fl (or any other software for that matter)and later decide to change the software in favor of another (cubase, for instance), will i be able to modify the track in the newer software? total noob here so bear with me. thanks.:gsmile: |

yes there are a couple (semi-)compatible formats.
I have exchanged tracks between cubase and avid (video editing software) for instance so I could do some post production on the audio part for a couple of dvd's. However FL does not have OMF support, so that wouldn't work. Exporting channels seperately would be your only option in most cases.
Export as OMF is where it's at. :)
It's not always 100% perfect though. But works well. |

| OMF is jsut a way of getting many audio channels from one app to another. You can't say it is the same as importing a cubase file into another prog and having your mixer etc. set up the same way as it was :p |

true, hence the semi I guess hehe.
The exports I got into cubase where always slightly off. quite annoying. |

| Ableton has this function that lets you export each track automaticly as audio files, wish other apps would have this function as well. |

Yeah, OMF has it's quirks. Understandable though... it was developed in the 90s to move AVID media composer audio to pro tools for cleanup. |

| Strictly speaking, echosystem is correct and moving a project between hosts is not as easy as clicking a few buttons, but there are workarounds, some of which have already been mentioned. You could also look into Rewire, depending on the host/slave, and bounce the slave tracks to audio in the new host. I'm not sure if this is do-able with FLS, so maybe someone else can verify. The "last resort" option is exporting your MIDI and audio clips individually and import them/rebuild the project in the new host. |

| if ur only using vst this shouldnt be very tricky as i see it. just export the midis and save all the presets on the vsts, then load it all into the new daw. if u using internal efex and stuff u will have trouble tho but then u could just render loops of wavs instead. |

| finish your track in the DAW where you started it. i even do this with new versions of the same DAW. it's usually too much work to translate one project into another daw.. |
